i’ve been trying to figure out the state of rap music for a little while now. the internet has definitely changed the game. not for better or worse but definitely a progression of sorts.
there’s no mainstream or underground rap anymore if you look hard enough. its really all individual now. a bunch of niche movements, each with their own ideals and standards.
rhymesayers. A$AP crew. OFWGKTA. 9th wonder’s revivalist sound through jamla.
pretty much sub-genres.
anyone can google and discover music now since its so widely available.
and any of these niche movements could go viral at any moment.
is it realllllyy about good music or just luck and timing?
